  • White and blue light at controlled airport?

Around sunset, a white and light blue light flashes at my airport. What do these colors signify, and do other airports have different colors for particular reasons?

White and Blue don't ring a bell.

Are you sure it's not green and white - means civil airport...

What you see is the rotating becon. It is white and green. At a civilian airfield, it flashes white, green, white, green... At a military airfield, it has the same colors, but flashes, white, white, green, white, white, green... This is just to highlight military fields from civilian fields. The becon, itself identifies the airfield at night. It is also turned on in the day if it is only IRF conditions. If you are seeing any other color that Green and white, you are most likelyu looking at a heliport.

I thought blue lights indicated a K-Mart special.

PureMuscle is probably right. Trust me, I've seen a few airport beacons (in Virginia) that really are BLUE instead of green. Not light green, not bluish green, not greenish blue, but blue.
