The Waco YMF’s that were produced the thirties were available as floatplanes, and were certainly one of the most attractive American-built seaplanes available at the time. The airplane was intended as an expensive sportsman’s airplane and the added expense of the float installation made this version a rarity, but this does not speak negatively of the airplane’s ability as a floatplane. The type had plenty of wing area and also was not under-powered for float installation, so consequently they were a good performer when operated in this configuration. The company that is now in production with the new and updated Waco YMF-5 airplanes is operating one of their configurations. The company that is now in production with the new and updated Waco YMF-5 airplanes is operating one of their airplanes on a set of floats, and it is hoped that this will result in some other examples being purchased and flown as floatplanes. It would certainly be nice if the general public was able to purchase a ride in a seaplane of this distinction.
